Specimen # 201140
Mineral: Quartz, Tourmaline, Hematite
Location: Minas Gerais, Brazil
Size: 13.0 x 11.4 x 0.8 cm

Description

A wonderful large sliced and polished cross-section of a quartz crystal, full of sharp tourmaline crystals and accented with bright red hematite inclusions. The tourmaline crystals have not been analyzed – upon examination with magnification, some are green and some have brown hues, while some appear black. (Please note, if you zoom in and see multiple colour hues in a couple of photos, they are due to the use of the polarizing lens to control reflections – the correct colour hues are greens and browns such as in the third photo.)  The last photo is John’s. The outer edges of the specimen are natural surfaces of the quartz crystal.

A superb piece from the John White quartz collection.
