Description

Detailed Description

This specimen features glassy light amethyst growth over a dark underlying quartz crystal. Viiewed with backlighting, the underlying crystal has purple zones as well. The crystals are well-formed and doubly-terminated. The amethystine overgrowth is sharp, transparent to translucent, with good lustre. In very good condition, some chipping in two spots on the left, at the termination and a bit lower – not obvious from the optimal display angle. This specimen has nicer purple than many had – it’s a good specimen from this small find.

About these Quartz Specimens

These specimens are from a 2018 find at a road construction project, which has now been completed. Most of the specimens were relatively lightly amethystine with sceptred growth over darker core crystals.
