Quartz, var. Amethyst

Specimen # 201025
Mineral: Quartz, var. Amethyst
Location: Near Frederico Westphalen, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil
Size: 10.3 x 7.8 x 4.5 cm

This piece features slender, delicate pale lavender amethyst crystals rising up from a plate of smaller jumbled crystals. These amethyst crystals are quite curious and complex, under magnification Рeach  exhibiting the faces of more than one individual. They appear intergrown, almost as if twinned (although there is no twinning law to account for it Рthey are certainly not twinned, rather, some type of parallel growth). In excellent condition, no damage. A beautiful specimen from the John S. White collection.
