Quartz, var. Smoky Quartz

Specimen # 201068
Mineral: Quartz, var. Smoky Quartz
Location: Shigar Valley, Shigar District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
Size: 9.9 x 7.1 x 6.3 cm

Description

These parallel smoky quartz crystals stand up over a bright white background of mounded albite crystals, dotted with muscovite crystals. The smoky quartz is sharp and as lustrous as it gets. It is transparent in its upper portions and has internal fractures throughout – some of these give the specimen a very nice play of light, under the cabinet lights. In excellent condition, a tiny rub at the tip. Looks great, supported to stand as photographed. This is a beautiful cabinet specimen of pegmatite quartz with its associated minerals, from the John S. White quartz collection.
