Spodumene, var. Kunzite

Specimen # 200075
Mineral: Spodumene, var. Kunzite
Location: Spodumene, var. Kunzite, Urucum Mine, Galileia, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Size: 7.7 x 2.7 x 1.7 cm

Description

From the locality that has produced some of the best kunzites ever found, this is a spectacular crystal. It is so lustrous it looks wet. The colour is a fine pink-lavender, very intense when looking down the c-axis. The top termination is beautiful, very well-defined, with a bit of pattern/complexity. In excellent condition, no damage, no point of attachment. For the size, they don’t get better than this – it’s a killer.

About the photos – the play of light and intensity of colour really vary with kunzite, so I’ve photographed it using different techniques. With a light background, the colour is lighter (and it’s darker on dark) – typical of a transparent gem crystal.
