Stolzite on Scheelite

Specimen # 100968
Mineral: Stolzite on Scheelite
Location: Mundo Nuevo Mine, Huamachuco, Sanchez Carrion Province, La Libertad Dept., Peru
Size: 5.7 x 5.2 x 3.6 cm

Description

This specimen features a 2.5 cm dark grey scheelite crystal coated with bright yellow-green stolzite, with hubnerite and quartz crystals in association. These have been found only once before this find in 2014, and many are not so good, with damage and incomplete crystals. This one is in excellent condition, with no damage to the main scheelite – it does have a contact where it grew up against a quartz crystal that is now now present, and I would display it as in the first photograph with that contact directly facing you, and with the horizons of the crystal all crisp, but that’s my taste and I’ve shot it from other angles for you. A couple of dark spots on the scheelite where there is no stolzite, including at one tip,

A great specimen from a very unusual find.
