Wulfenite

Specimen # 200150
Mineral: Wulfenite
Location: Ahumada Mine, Los Lamentos Mtns., Chihuahua, Mexico
Size: 8.5 x 7.8 x 6.4 cm

Description

A superb classic specimen of orange wulfenite crystals from one of the world’s most famous wulfenite localities. The wulfenite crystals are sharp, lustrous (very glossy) and have great colour. They are perched on a background of white calcite crystals, giving great contrast.

In excellent condition. The main central crystal group is almost pristine, with a couple tiny chips you have to search for. The smaller cluster at the top is in the same top condition – one minor incomplete crystal at one side. At other peripheral places on the specimen there are incomplete wulfenites but the main area of focus is super.

This piece has some history and is accompanied by five labels, including John’s (not including mine). We don’t know when it was collected, nor can we be certain of all of its owners or the exact timelines. We know that in 1955 it was sold to a collector by Southern Gem & Mineral company, the dealership of Elbert M. Barron. At another time, it passed through the hands of E. Mitchell Gunnell, and that label has survived to accompany the specimen. It was in the collection of Harold D. Levy of Baltimore.

A beautiful, colourful display specimen.
