Zircon

Specimen # 101998
Mineral: Zircon
Location: Zircon, Astor Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
Size: 3.1 x 2.7 x 1.3 cm

Description

This specimen features a brilliantly-red zircon that comes to life under the lights. The crystal is sharp and lustrous. The crystal is repaired to the matrix, which is why it is such a good price – in this case, this beautiful crystal would be lost to collecting if not repaired, and it has such good colour and form, that would be a shame. In excellent condition, no damage. Some rounding on the underside where this crystal interacted with surrounding minerals while forming – this is not seen as displayed. Stands perfectly as photographed. This zircon fluoresces yellow under short-wave ultraviolet light, as shown in the last photo. A beautiful red zircon crystal!
