Arsenopyrite

Specimen # 102736
Mineral: Arsenopyrite
Location: Trepca Complex, Mitrovica, Kosovo
Size: 7.0 x 6.3 x 3.9 cm

Description

This is an incredibly aesthetic arsenopyrite specimen – it is a complete cluster of sharp, lustrous arsenopyrite crystals, sitting on a bed of pale rhodochrosite and surrounded by a ring of lustrous black sphalerite crystals. The arsenopyrite is in perfect condition. Many of the sphalerite crystals are complete as well – some sphalerites are not complete where they joined with the surrounding sphalerite. This arsenopyrite has wonderful presentation – and I rarely say this, but it’s just not captured in the photos very well – it’s so 3-D. (If you aren’t seeing how great this piece is and you’d like me to send you a video clip, I’ll be happy to.) What a specimen!

From the Tracy Kimmel collection – specifically her sub-collection of arsenic-bearing minerals. It was mined in 2014 and brought out by Ross Lillie (Northstar Minerals). This is a super arsenopyrite!
