Arsentsumebite PS Mimetite

Specimen # 103260
Mineral: Arsentsumebite after Mimetite
Location: Tsumeb Mine, Otjikoto Region, Namibia
Size: 2.3 x 2.0 x 1.3 cm

Description

This is a specimen of pseudomorphs of arsentsumebite after hexagonal mimetite crystals. One crystal is hollow – seems fully crystallized (although on one edge a chip reveals some internal cerussite replacement). Perched on the arsentsumebite are small cyclic twins of cerussite. In excellent condition, this specimen is from the Tracy Kimmel collection, ex. Isaias Cassanova (his label is included).

A note about arsentsumebite specimens: they can be complex in composition and can vary within a single specimen (some being partially composed of bayldonite), while in other cases the composition does not vary. One can only know for certain with an x-ray diffraction analysis, and because of the variation, certainty would require one to test each single specimen in several places. This specimen is not accompanied by analysis and could include bayldonite.
