Andradite Garnet

Specimen # 200530
Mineral: Andradite Garnet
Location: Mega Horio, Serifos Island, Milos, South Aegean, Greece
Size: 9.8 x 6.6 x 6.0 cm

Description

A superb cabinet specimen hosting sharp andradite crystals from Serifos Island, Greece. These are sharp trapezohedral crystals clustered together. Upon close inspection under good light one can see that they are a dark red with some brownish hues, and they have faint striations on the crystal faces. Some areas of the piece include clusters of much smaller crystals perched upon larger underlying ones in neat arrangements. In excellent condition, a few incomplete crystals around the periphery where this was attached to adjoining rock, and minor rubs in a couple of places. Stands perfectly for display as photographed. A great Greek garnet specimen from the Pete Richards collection.
