Elbaite Tourmaline

Specimen # 200476
Mineral: Elbaite Tourmaline
Location: Dunton Gem Quarry, Newry, Oxford Co., Maine, USA
Size: 4.1 x 3.2 x 2.9 cm

Description

From the famous find in 1972, this tourmaline crystal has a super, complex termination. The crystal is the iconic aqua green colour for Dunton tourmaline. Prism faces are mostly absent and those present are highly oscillatory. In excellent condition, some edge chipping, insignificant from the primary viewing angle (as in the first photo). A Maine classic!

From the Pete Richards collection, Pete’s catalogue indicates that the termination faces are likely {40-41}, {02-21}, and {21-31}. Pete acquired this specimen on August 1, 1986.
