Erythrite

Specimen # 100874
Mineral: Erythrite
Location: Bou Azzer, Tazenakht, Ouarzazate Province, Morocco
Size: 8.4 x 5.3 x 2.1 cm

Description

Detailed Description

This specimen features a gorgeous erythrite crystal – transparent, sharp, the best colour, approximately 1 cm, nestled in the centre of an erythrite-filled vug. The trick with this piece is orientation, mounting it to get that crystal to reflect in your display lighting, as in the first two photographs. That crystal is only one of many beautiful ones on the specimen – the sharp erythrites on his piece have wonderful deep colour and brilliant lustre. These crystallized vugs were very narrow, so there are some spots of contact where crystals spanned the opening and touched the opposite side of the cavity. In excellent condition, a few incomplete peripheral crystals. From the Tracy Kimmel collection – she originally acquired it from me. Beautiful specimen!

About these Erythrites

Erythrite crystals from Bou Azzer are generally regarded as the finest in the world. The challenge with erythrite, however, is to obtain fine-quality specimens – the mineral is so soft and delicate that most specimens are damaged in the removal process or subsequent transportation. The erythrites in this small lot are superb quality specimens of this beautiful mineral.
