Wavellite

Specimen # 200465
Mineral: Wavellite
Location: Avant, Garland Co., Arkansas, USA
Size: 4.7 x 3.3 x 2.5 cm

Description

This is a wavellite with a lot more than meets the eye at a glance. The crystal-lined vug contains balls of radiating wavellite crystals – so far, no surprise. However, a closer look reveals that these wavellite balls are comprised of discrete crystals easily visible with the magnification of a loupe. The wavellite crystals are terminated and one can even see enough separation in places to see prism faces. In excellent condition, no damage to the main part of the piece (just the usual incomplete balls around the periphery where this was attached to adjacent rock).  From the Pete Richards collection, he acquired it on September 24, 1995. This is a gorgeous little wavellite!
