A superb doubly-terminated gem tourmaline crystal from the Little Three Mine. It is sharp and transparent, with colour zoning, a little light pink at either end. The pyramidal termination faces are particularly lustrous – they are glassy! (I note that the pink zone at the flat pinacoid termination end is incredibly thin visually and is […]

A brilliant central scalenohedral crystal of hematite, with smaller sparkling crystals. Scalenohedral crystals of hematite are quite rare, and this is from a prospect that was explored years ago for copper in the Canadian Arctic. Hadley Bay, on Victoria Island, hosted a contact containing calcite and hematite, and it was excavated to produce some specimens. […]

Balls of radiating needle-like millerite crystals from the 1990s find at Thompson, northern Manitoba. This find was a world-class occurrence for the mineral, and the mine has not produced anything like it since. This piece is certainly a little more 3-D than the first photo would suggest, and it’s probably a little less 3-D than […]

Wonderful sharp crystals of edingtonite with calcite from the fairly remote Ice River Alkaline Complex in the B.C. Rocky Mountains. These specimens came out decades ago, and are not often available these days. Edingtonite is an uncommon zeolite mineral, with good crystals known from few localities. These crystals have super form and great lustre, and […]
